Let me just preface this with saying that it is going to be a long post.
So yesterday was the first day of school. Shawn and I were not way excited to start back to school but at the same time we were a little excited just because we took the last sememster off for the wedding and so starting back means that we are closer to being finished. Well that little bit of excitement wore off really fast yesterday.
Let me start at the beginning. Sunday night I made taco soup for us to have Monday right after work so that we could come home, have dinner real quick, and then head off to school. Well, Shawn and I get off work at 4 and of course it started snowing Monday so we left work between 4:05 and 4:10 and didn't get home until around 4:35 which is not that great seeing as we live like 5 minutes from work! So we obviously didn't have enough time to eat and then drive to school and make it to class at 5:30 with the roads being that bad. We had been driving the yaris so we just switched cars so we were in the passport since it's a lot better in the snow and then left for school. Some people at work had let us know that the freeway was closed because of an 11 car pile-up so we took the highway. It didn't take us as long as we thought to get there but we were still 10 minutes late for class.
Well, my class wasn't that bad. We just went over the syllabus and went around the room introducing ourselves and then we were out by 6:45. Shawn's class was in the same building so I just went and sat by where his class was and started reading the first chapter that my class will cover next week. I read it, and finished it and Shawn's class still wasn't out. I walked around looking for a clock but couldn't see one. I just walked around a little more since I'd been sitting for a while and when I went and sat back down I saw a clock right by the door of Shawn's class, it was 8:25! Class is supposed to be out at 8:20, but Shawn's teacher just kept going and going until 8:45!!! He finally got out of class and was telling me all about his teacher gets super excited about finances and accounting and just never stops talking even for a second! lol Before we headed home we ran to Sheri's (Shawn's mom) house to get Shawn's phone that he had left there the day before and then we were on our way.
When we were driving the battery light went on in the passport, but it seemed to be driving ok still. Well, that didn't last very long. Soon the heater stopped working, the radio went off, the lights started dimming, and then after a while the gauges stopped working completely and the headlights were so dim, you could barely tell they were on. The car was still running so we just kept going as far as we could, even though it probably wasn't the safest thing since the lights were so dim. Then the car finally had it and died completely.
So, what were we to do? It was around 9:30 which normally we would be getting ready to go to bed soon since we have early work. Well, we called my Dad and he came right out there. I am SO thankful for such wonderful parents that will just drop whatever they're doing to come help us whenever we need. Well, we tried jumping the car but that didn't really work because we think it's the alternator going out so the battery just isn't even getting charged. So, we started charging the alternator and sat in my Dad's car to warm up a little bit. We decided that we would need to either tow the car ourselves or pay to get it towed. We are cheap and Shawn's best friend Bryan had a tow cable so we called him up and he brought it out to us which we were very thankful for. So we got the cars connected and started towing the car to my parents house which was quite the scary experience since the roads were so snowy and slippery, but Shawn did amazing. It made it a little nicer since there weren't too many people on the roads at this point.
We finally got the car to my parents house and we had charged the alternator enough that we could turn it on to park it in thier driveway. My dad then took us home. We didn't get home until around 12:00, and we were finally able to eat something for dinner. It was such a long night and I have to say probably the worst first day of school ever!!! lol We are so greatful for such wonderful family and friends though that were so willing to help us.
